NAUSICAA – Joint Indo-French expedition of students in October 2018

Come October 17th 2018 & 43 students from Manav Rachna Group of schools, Venketshwara International & DPS-Ranchi along with their teachers & Principals will visit NAUSICAA, the French National Sea Centre Boulogne-sur-mer in France, which is the biggest aquarium in Europe. It is an amazing experience of the vastness and fragility of the Ocean.

This aquariuem is built in the shape of a Manta Ray, the newly built building holds a staggering 10,000 mof water (to give an idea of the scale, the equivalent of 4 Olympic pools). This is modelled on the island of Malpelo, off the coast of Colombia, this giant aquarium has creatted an ecosystem of the high seas. Sharks, manta rays and shoals of other fish populates this ecosystem, with almost 60,000 creatures in the community! An 18 metre-long transparent tunnel offers a totally immersive experience with panoramic viewing angles, delighting the Indians students as well as the French students with whom this joint expedition is planned by Le Frehindi & Lycée Jean Moulin. A vast viewing panel, measuring 20 metres long and 5 metres high, will also give spectacular views for the vititing students.

NAUSICAA is much more than just an aquarium. It is a place where the unique & natural marine environment can be discovered in a fun, educational and scientific way, with a primary focus on the relationship between Mankind and the Sea. In 25 years, NAUSICAA has welcomed over 15 million visitors and has become a major player in efforts to raise awareness of the marine environment especially for the young generation on whose shoulder lies the well being & preservation on nature.

NAUSICAA is a UNESCO “Centre of Excellence” because of its awareness-raising activities.

We hope that this unique visit will help our Indian studnets along with the French students to move one step closer to become an ecologically aware Global Citizen.
