TGV Experience by SNCF : ( Bullet Train )

The moment students get down at CDG Airport in Paris they will get to know about the concept of Bullet trains. In India we are talking about Bullet trains & soon we will have it here. In France, students will have an experience of bullet trains by traveling in TGV which runs at 350 km/hr and which makes them cover 500km from Paris to Lyon in just 1.5 hours.

By making TGV as our long distance internal mode of transport the students realize the importance of fast, long distance trains which adds to the value and growth of a nation.

Students will visit the lumière institute where the 1st cinema of the world was made & patented. At the guided tour in English at this museum where students learn about Auguste and Louis Lumière’s life and their great achievement in film making. The students understand how an idea can take someone from rags to riches, which is the story of the Lumière brothers who made the 1st cinema of the world and have over 100 patents on photography in their name.

Le Frehindi take the students for a visit to Fourvière on a hilltop in the heart of Lyon which is dedicated to mother Mary, to whom is attributed the salvation of the city of Lyon from the bubonic plague that swept Europe in 1643. Students will learn about the divine reality and faith. To reach the Fourvière we will take a small train called funiculaire which takes people up on the hills. This is a special train found in France & Switzerland which has been in place since the 18th century. The style of this kind of train is that one train comes down and pulls the other one up & vice versa, which explains the basic mechanics to students in an easy manner.

The Fourvière has a history & story attached with it which is similar to the mythology of Rama returning home & Indians celebrating Deepawali. We let the students know about the story wherein like Deepawali people light up candles on their balconies and windows in the 1st week of December on occasion of the famous “Festival of Lights”. Students can relate their festival of lights back home to the French festival of lights. Also, on the top of the Fourvière if the sky is clear the students can see the mountains of Mont Blanc in the alps. This also teaches students that a big metropole city like Lyon can be pollution free if the Govt. & people work together to make their cities pollution free – A menace that we have been facing in India with our ever growing metropolis cities.

Students will go on guided street walk to Old lyon & Paris

Students learn by listening to people on the streets and also interacting with them. They appreciate the old & new shops and especially the European design and public services along with a vibrant fashionable global crowd. Students feel like truly global citizens while undertaking a very interesting street walk which lets them experience why since Napoleon time the French houses have had the same type of façade? How  the Govt. makes sure that the façade of a building or house remains the same & how this helps to beautify the city. This learning is very important and makes children wonder why we do not have such rules in our own country where balconies & courtyard extensions, painting the house in different colors, different houses with different windows are a common feature. This inspires the students to identify gaps in our system & in turn inspires them to take up civil services in future to let them become the instrument of change for their country.

The students also see on the streets how France has changed in the last few years with more & more VEGAN restaurants mushrooming all over & there is a lot of focus on the environment and push towards natural products. They also get to see the negative impacts of too much immigration. While they appreciate the fact that each city in EU has been mandated to adopt certain number of refugees from say the war in Syria or Ukraine to save lives of children and women, but they also get to have a 1st hand experience how the same benevolence puts pressure on streets, resources and general cleanliness of the cities in question.
