Formal Launch of French Spell Bee 2014

The ‘French Spell Bee’ competition 2014 was officially launched on 22nd August 2014 in a ceremony at M L Bhartia Auditorium, Alliance Française de Delhi in the presence of Ms. Caroline Schmitt, Attachée for Coopération in French Embassy.

For this inauguration ceremony, French teachers across North India were invited. The session was divided in three different parts. To begin the ceremony there was a spectacular cultural performance presented by class 7th and 8thstudents from Greensfields Public School and Arwachin International School anchored by students from BASAVA International School.

The ceremony was started with the Lord ‘Ganesh’ prayer (which was a fusion on tabla and harmonium) presented by the students of Green Fields School

They also sung famous French songs and poems such as ‘Alouette gentille alouette’, ‘Au Claire de la lune’ and ‘Je ne veux pas travailler’. The students of Arwachin International School presented a magical dance performance on karaoke of the famous French song ‘Derrière dance’ as well as they performed a group song ‘Je lui dirai’.

Once all the performances got over Ms. Caroline Schmitt was asked to express as well as share her sentiments. In her opinion she was really mesmerized and surprised to see the performances given by all the participants specially “The Frehindi style fusion”, experimenting for the first time live on stage. As a result, Ms. Schmitt congratulated and praised all the efforts and hard work done by team Frehindi and wished all students and teacher the very best for the 2014 Spelling bee competition.

The next session was followed by Mr. Haru Mehra. During this session he explained all the details about French spelling bee competition i.e total number of rounds, amount of registration fees, details of different zones, different prizes for the participants as well as the teacher, eligibility, criteria for appearing in the 2nd and the 3rd round, themes & syllabus etc.

The last session was a workshop entitled “Vous avez dit Orthographe?! Alors….”based on different spelling games that one can propose to the students for improving their spelling skills. This workshop, conducted by Mr. Hemant Bisht exclusively for the French Teachers. During his entire workshop, he mainly focused on elementary and constructive techniques for preparing students for the Spell bee competition.

At last a mock test was given to all the teachers with a view to give some ideas on how to prepare the students for the competition.

In the end certificates were distributed by Ms. Caroline Schmitt to all the teachers who attended the event.
